On March 2, 2023, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) offered his reflections on the idea that ecological civilization is a brand-new world view and the evolution of ecological civilization over the past ten years.

Dr. Zhou mentioned that ecological civilization has witnessed many changes in the last decade, mainly in pollution control and the increasing awareness of ecology.

The ecological governance in China is not merely for the visible “mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, grass and sand”, but for the way of production, green lifestyle and the way of culture and arts, which constitutes a new moral concept. The concept of “ecological civilization” is inscribed in the Chinese Constitution in 2018. Therefore, taking ecological civilization into practice in the Chinese context not only facilitates the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, but also takes the lead in the world.

Dr. Zhou believes that the idea of ecological civilization is a brand-new world view and methodology. Different from the world view generated by industrial civilization, the idea now is about the harmonious coexistence between man and nature. To implement the new methodology, it is imperative for us to take the natural resources, GEP (Gross Ecosystem Product), and the protection of ecological environment as our primary concerns.
