The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) set up a “bridge” to gather voices from scientists and people to the country’s top legislative bodies for the “Two Sessions”, China’s most important political and legislative conferences in March 2023.
In preparation for the upcoming “Two Sessions” 2023, by CBCGDF received over 60 responses from various sources. One of them is to upgrade red panda to national first-class protected animal.
Source: World Wildlife Fund
The reasons for the endangerment of red panda include the loss of fragmentation of habitat due to deforestation, the loss of genetic diversity of population, genetic drift, inbreeding, and a large number of illegal hunts.
Therefore, CBCGDF proposes to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration that the red panda needs to be upgraded as national first-class protected animal and to receive the same attention and protection as giant panda. It is our hope that this cute creature never disappears in nature.
