In order to thoroughly implement the major decision-making deployment of the  Government of China on carbon peaking and neutrality, and promote the implementation of the Agricultural and Rural Emission Reduction and Carbon Sequestration Implementation Plan by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the National Development and Reform Commission, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation Standards Working Committee (CBCGDF Standards Committee) formulated the Technical Specification for Agricultural Soil Carbon Sequestration Part 1 One Planting Period (T/CGDF 00035-2022) group standard, which was officially released on December 19, 2022. It will be officially implemented on December 26, 2022. Welcome to adopt it!

This standard is one of the farmland carbon sequestration series standards, which stipulates the terms and definitions, evaluation principles, evaluation process, evaluation indicators, evaluation methods, data quality assurance, verification and evaluation reports of one planting period's agricultural soil carbon sequestration level.

This standard is applicable to the evaluation of the level of carbon sequestration in agricultural soil by evaluation agencies, especially the evaluation of farmland crop yield reflecting the carbon sequestration of agricultural soil; it can be used as a reference for the calculation of soil carbon stocks of perennial crops, forest trees, crops that are planted within one year, etc.

The earth has four major carbon pools: lithosphere carbon pool, ocean carbon pool, atmospheric carbon pool, and terrestrial ecosystem carbon pool. Terrestrial ecosystem carbon pools include vegetation carbon pools and soil carbon pools. Soil carbon pool is one of the most important carbon pools on land. Soil carbon pool refers to the storage of carbon in soil, including soil organic carbon and soil inorganic carbon. Soil carbon sequestration is an effective way to achieve carbon neutrality. Increasing the organic matter (carbon) content of farmland can not only improve the quality of cultivated land, but also a way of sequestering carbon to mitigate climate change.
