Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received the reply from the National Health Commission on CBCGDF’s "Proposal Letter of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment as a Component Unit of the Inter-ministerial Coordination Leading Group for the Implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control". The National Health Commission stated: According to the actual needs, in accordance with the working procedures of the leading group for tobacco control implementation, and on the basis of obtaining the consent of relevant departments including the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the leading group will be adjusted and improved in due course.

CBCGDF appreciates the efficient response of the National Health Commission. We expect the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to become a constituent unit of the inter-ministerial coordination leading group for the implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control as soon as possible to promote environmental protection and tobacco control.

The current members of the Inter-ministerial Coordination Leading Group for the Implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control include eleven ministries including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. With the emphasis on global climate change and environmental protection, the negative impact of the tobacco industry on the environment from the whole process of planting, production, transportation, and consumption has increasingly attracted worldwide attention.
