It’s great to learn that the Asian Elephant “Molly”, who has been caught in Qingyang Swan Lake Ecological Park, Henan for endless animal shows, suffering great mistreatment, left Qingyang Zoo for Kunming Zoo on May 15, thanks to the concerted efforts from both home and abroad, according to the latest news from the official website of Henan Forestry Administration.
This is a joyous occasion when everyone is so happy about Molly!!
Many thanks go to those who have long been deeply concerned with Molly and committed to saving Molly!! The story of trying to save the Asian elephant Molly is undoubtedly a triumph of learning and practicing the idea of ecological civilization, perfectly embodying the increased awareness of biodiversity conservation, and the active participation of all people in the construction of ecological civilization, as well as in building a shared future for all life on Earth. In spite of the fact that we’ve obtained its primary achievement in saving “Molly”, we still have a long way to go
1.To help Molly's family back in the wild. It’s reported that Molly’s brother Yanan, leased to the Manting Imperial Garden, Xishuangbanna autonomous prefecture, Yunnan Prov. has been trained as performing elephant for entertainment commercially and dancing like a machine every day; and their grandma, Yalong, was also sent to Manting Park, after retirement from Kunming Zoo around 60, to carry visitors for a while, and later disappeared somehow. To make her whole family members to be together, and be back to the wild, more efforts are needed.
2. To promote legislation to prohibit wildlife abuse and commercial use (including animal shows, commercial breeding).
3. To improve relevant rules and regulations.
