Protected species Asian elephant “Molly” now becomes a performance animal in a zoo. Her fate saddened many people who called CBCGDF for help. We’ll organize an online webinar on Apr 29.

This is a case that peoples’ participation in biodiversity governance. The elephant “Molly” was bred in Kunming, Yunnan and treated as a princess with headline news reports. Later she was taken away from mom & sent to a Zoo in Henan and disappeared from public attention. And volunteers found she was in captivity and used as a performing & entertainment animal. The people got furious and resorted CBCGDF for help, who shortly sent official letters asking information disclosure about Molly from relevant parties & authorities. 

Encouraged by China’s new policy on scientific ethics in which asking respect life’s rights, and in response to the call of people at home and abroad, CBCGDF decided to organize a webinar for an in-depth discussion, esp. about the ethics — the Asian elephant “Molly” was sent to Henan in the name of scientific research for breeding, hoping to take Molly's abuse as a typical case of society and establish relevant legislation to avoid the recurrence of similar tragedy.
