Biodiversity ensures life. However, over exploitation of land and species, pollution and climate change have eroded biodiversity. We are now facing natural disasters, food and water shortages, zoonotic diseases and other problems. Therefore, biodiversity conservation is essential for sustainable development of nature.

Recognizing this, International Organization for Standardization/ Technical Committee ( ISO/TC331 ) composed of experts from all over the world, was established to develop standards including standardized terms and definitions used globally, define strategies and action plans, monitoring and reporting tools and guidelines on specific biodiversity issues, such as ecological engineering, nature-based solutions and related technologies to help organizations achieve the goal of sustainable development of biodiversity.

From June 28 to July 2, 2021, the 1st plenary meeting of ISO / TC331 was held online. More than 130 representatives from more than 20 countries and organizations such as International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) attended the meeting. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) also sent experts.

The first meeting focused on the scope of work, priority work items, working group and chairman's advisory group of ISO / TC331, and formed more than 40 relevant resolutions. The second annual meeting of ISO / TC331 will be held online from April 4 to 8, 2022, in which the scope of each working group (AGH2, AG3, AGH4) will be confirmed, as well as further future work plan, etc.

The Standards Working Committee of CBCGDF will continue to deeply participate in related activities of ISO / TC331, actively participate in global standard governance, promote the formulation of relevant international standards.
