On December 5th, National Forestry and Grassland Administration released an exposure draft on revisions of the list featuring land wildlife with important values in ecology, science, and society——which is also called Three-value-list.

Having heard of this announcement, the Research Department of CBCGDF highly stressed this opportunity to engage in the revision work. After so many efforts including asking opinions from multiple sides, suggestions in details were finally submitted to National Forestry and Grassland Administration and are presented as below.

Suggestion 1: the wild boar should be kept in the three-value-list

Reason: this species covers a pretty large area in China nevertheless without a specific and thorough ecological research by scientists or authorities. Therefore, due to the lack relevant knowledge about these wild pigs and the fact that these Carnivora stand as a top consumer in the local food chain, we should not blindly erase them in the list. A possible future is that non-scientific approaches will lead to a dead end for this species.

Suggestion 2: Among all amphibians in list, species of wild frogs are overmuch deleted. The authority should reconsider these wild animals, such as Heilongjiang Brown Frogs.

Reason: Current artificial breeding tech is still immature, hence we cannot guarantee a satisfactory growth for these frogs. What’s more, so far, we have not known exhaustively about their living conditions in nature. Therefore, it is inappropriate to delete a large amount of amphibians and remove them from the list, which will definitely reduce these lives into a poor survival condition.

Suggestion 3: Apis cerana cerana (Native Bee of China) should be held in the list.

Reason: These bees cover a relatively small area in China but actually play an irreplaceable role in contribution to ecosystem and agriculture.

More suggestions are given below in brief:

Arachnida Scorpion, all kinds of earthworms and fireflies should be added into the list due to a high mortality of them caused by human activities;

been incorporated into the latter list and thus should be removed from the three-value-list from the start;

Some species in list conflict with their own position in the List of Key Protected Wild Animals in China. For example, Yellow-breasted Magpie has already been incorporated into the latter list and thus should be removed from the three-value-list from the start;

Nomenclature of some species should be mended. For example, the Chinese name of common swift should be modified to prevent some misunderstandings from taking place.

Before the expiration date, the Research Department of CBCGDF have already formally handed in our advice to the environment authority.
