Suggestions to MOHURD: Assessment Standard for Green Building should Add more Green Concepts

Recently, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is extensively soliciting advice from all kinds of fields. Specifically, CBCGDF actively responded to this call and offered our own opinions on modification of the Assessment Standard for Green Building, one part of the plan made by MOHURD.

This assessment standard mainly focuses on the evaluation of green capability of civil constructions. For example, green buildings should be included into the calculation of carbon emission; renewable resources should be given more weight.

Part 1

The International Cooperation Department of CBCGDF firmly holds the belief that, besides the statements above, the new evaluation standard should add contents pertaining to biodiversity-friendly requirements, including:

reducing the rate of bird mortality of striking high buildings, three-dimensional greeneries, governance of light pollution, and sponge city establishment & disaster prevention through green buildings.

Part 2

To be more specific:

1 When it comes to the governance of light pollution, we need to be aware that walls made of glass can feasibly cause bird deaths. Therefore, when building a greener city, whether civil constructions can reduce light pollution and enhance the biodiversity-friendly extent, should be given enough priority in the governmental revision plan.

2 when we are talking about the meaning of green building, we should emphasis the importance of biodiversity, this is because green building is not only for human life, but also runs for the whole nature. From this perspective, to realize a biodiversity- friendly atmosphere should be one of requirements.

3 Advice on revising definition of green building material: the so-called green material should also focus on the decrease of resource consumption and impact upon ecosystem, thus featuring abilities such as dispelling light pollution.

For more articles in the Assessment Standard for Green Building, like projects on green financial services and quantitative evaluation on green buildings, most suggested revisions from CBCGDF are about biodiversity-friendly consideration and relevant strategies.
