Besides, artificial breeding bases for Chinese sturgeons and Yangtze River sturgeons and on-site and ex-situ protection sites for Yangtze River finless porpoises would be established as well.
Projects that bring endangered species such as the Yangtze finless porpoise into commercial aquariums have a negative impact on the ultimate goal of increasing the wild population of the Yangtze River and its lakes rather than any contributions. Is it good that some people insist on "panda mode" for species conservation?
The protection required by ecological civilization is biodiversity protection and habitat protection. The real protection should be in place.
The Yangtze finless porpoise is a higher mammal, a cetacean, unlike any other endangered aquatic species. Artificial breeding, especially in the hope that artificial breeding will replenish wild populations, has no scientific basis and is almost hopeless. Moreover, artificial breeding will have a terrible social impact on society, significantly affecting the international image of China's ecological protection.
As far as we are concerned, this proposal is wrong and influenced by the stakeholders. Therefore, it is suggested that "Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Strengthening the Protection of Aquatic Life in the Yangtze River" delete the content of building artificial domestication and breeding base of the aquarium.
