Resolutely Crack Down on Illegal Wildlife Trade, Nine Major Industry Associations Jointly Established a Self-Discipline Alliance

On the afternoon of July 30, an event on the self-discipline initiative against the illegal trade in wildlife was held in Beijing. Nine industry associations, including China Wildlife Conservation Association, China Wild Plant Conservation Association, and China Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, jointly propose that various industry organizations establish a self-discipline alliance against illegal wildlife trade, formulate industry self-discipline standards, and take concrete actions to jointly combat the indiscriminate capture, excessive gathering, excessive eating and illegal trade in wildlife.

 

At the scene, nine major industry associations including China Wildlife Conservation Association, China Wild Plant Protection Association, China Chinese Medicine Association, China Flower Association, China Express Association, China Cuisine Association, China Meat Association, China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, and China Hotel Association signed an initiative to propose: Establish legal awareness, strictly follow the various laws and regulations on wildlife protection and international conventions, and "zero tolerance" for illegal trade in wildlife; Taking the promotion of the sustainable and healthy development of the industry as its own responsibility, uniting the industry, and solidly carrying out distinctive, effective and influential industry self-discipline activities to resist illegal wildlife trade; Strengthen training in the industry, increase vigilance against illegal wildlife trade, and enhance the ability to identify and resist illegal wildlife trade; Actively support and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their work, and formulate self-discipline regulations for combating illegal wildlife trade in the industry; Consciously accept social supervision, earnestly rectify and correct problems in the industry reported by the public, and improve social credibility; Actively carry out various forms of publicity activities, advocate green consumption and healthy consumption, and promote the construction of ecological civilization.

 

Li Qingwen, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Wildlife Conservation Association, said, illegal trade in wildlife is an important challenge facing the world. Ecological security issues involving poaching, smuggling, illegal sales and many other links require attention and common face from governments and related industries. China attaches great importance to the protection of wildlife and has organized a number of operations to crack down on illegal trade in wildlife across the country, demonstrating the resolute attitude and strength of government departments.
