It’s Still That Person Who Continues to Arrogantly Abuse, Law Enforcement Still Has No Effect | CBCGDF Frontline Volunteers Encounters While Clearing Illegal Fishing Nets

On April 28, two China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Dvelopment Foundation (CBCGDF) volunteers cooperated with the fishery law enforcement personnel of Hulan County, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province to clean up illegal fishing gear in the Hulan section of the Songhua River. When the area around the Hulan wetland was cleared, the law enforcement personnel and volunteers were vilified and attacked by illegal fishermen.

The illegal fisherman, holding a sickle, intimidated volunteers and law enforcement officials, claiming to "crush you" (see video for details). When the fishery law enforcement officers were about to evacuate, a female illegal fisherman threatened to say, "If you don't leave, I will jump into the river!"

Later, the volunteers learned that the male illegal fishermen in this incident also spoke badly to law enforcement officers and volunteers last year and threatened to kill the volunteers in front of the fishery law enforcement officers.

Under the strong reaction of the illegal fishermen, the law enforcement personnel could only return without success: no administrative penalty was imposed on the illegal fishermen, and the unsuccessful nets-clearing in the Songhua River could not continue to be continued. Volunteers said that since this time of law enforcement, so far, there are large cage nets and other illegal fishing nets everywhere on the Songhua River. No one dares to clean up.

Why not only do illegal fishermen not obey the law, but so arrogant? It’s hoped that relevant departments to attach great importance to take effective measures to protect the aquatic resources and habitats of Songhua River.
