On April 26, 2019, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) representative arrived in Geneva, Switzerland to attend the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Basel Convention, ninth meeting of the COP to the Rotterdam Convention, and ninth meeting of the COP to the Stockholm Convention. These meetings will convene back-to-back 29 April to 10 May 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The theme of the meetings will be “Clean Planet, Healthy People: Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste.” Key issues to be addressed include:

The listing of new chemicals under the Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions; adoption of technical guidelines under the Basel Convention; and financial and technical support for implementation of all three conventions.

The CBCGDF representative, who has arrived in Geneva in advance, together with nearly 70 environmental protection NGOs from around the world have further exchanged and discussed around the focuses of the three meetings.

In February 2019, because of CBCGDF’s efficient work in the areas including reducing plastic waste pollution and effectively promoting environmental rights in the form of environmental public interest litigation (EPIL), CBCGDF together with Toxics-Free China and Green Anhui from Anhui Province became observers of the 2019 Meetings of the Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, and will witness and participate in the three meetings.
