What's the future role of NGOs in Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL)?

The Seminar on Relationship of Eligible Plaintiffs in Environmental Public Interest Litigation was held by CBCGDF on Nov 23 in Beijing. 


In the opening speech, Dr. Jinfeng Zhou's said he was highly inspired and encouraged by President Xi's Report at the recent 19th CPC National Congress, which highlights environmental protection, ecological civilization, and the role of civil society in social & environmental governance. He exemplifies EPIL cases filed by CBCGDF to protect students' health over poisonous rubber running-tracks in schools; to guard desert ecosystem against 8 polluting companies, to conserve marine ecosystem & biodiversity against ConocoPhillips over the oil spill in Bohai, etc; to proactively prevent endangered species from extinction threatened by hydropower construction. 


More than 40 experts, judicial practitioners, prosecutors, gov officials, NGO representatives, and journalists attended the event to share experiences and exchange ideas. A proposal based on the Seminar will be developed and finalized later to be submit to the legislative departments.
