CBCGDF One Health Working Committee Reviews Past Work on World Zoonotic Disease Day 2023

On July 6, 1885, French biologist Louis Pasteur successfully vaccinated a little boy bitten by a rabid dog with the world's first rabies vaccine. To commemorate Pasteur's outstanding achievement, the international community set July 6 every year as "World Zoonoses Day".

The One Health Working Committee of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) advocates the comprehensive and unified approach of "One Health" to sustainably balance and optimize the health of humans, animals and ecosystems. The One Health approach recognizes that the health of humans, livestock and wildlife, plants, and the wider environment (including ecosystems) are closely linked and interdependent.

"CBCGDF One Health Working Committee", formerly known as "CBCGDF One Health Working Group", has carried out a series of work in the field of health and biosecurity over the past years, including signing a memorandum of cooperation with the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) to promote in China Rabies (zoonous disease) Epidemiological Bulletin, related tools and technologies, and GARC teaching materials, and publicizing and displaying rabies prevention and control activities in China at the Asian Rabies Control Conference (ARACON) and other related activities and meetings.

When the COVID-19 epidemic is raging around the world in 2020, the CBCGDF One Health Working Group actively implemented the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, promoted the spirit of "internationalism" and "One Health", and donates 100,000 masks to the Japan Friendship Inheritance and Development Association to help Japan fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

The World One Health Society was initiated in March 2023 by the CBCDGF One Health Working Committee and the National Animal Health and Food Safety Innovation Alliance.

On April 26, 2023, the 2023 World Young Scientists Summit (WYSS) One Health Forum (WYSS One Health Forum), co-hosted by CBCGDF One Health Working Committee, Zhejiang Science and Technology Association and Wenzhou Municipal People's Government, which is also the second parallel forum of the International Biodiversity Conference 2023 (2023 IBCOP PC2), was held at Wenzhou-Kean University, Zhejiang Province.

CBCGDF One Health Working Committee believes that One Health is an integrated, jointly-enhancing approach to sustainably balance and optimize the health of humans, animals and ecosystems. One Health is closely related to biodiversity conservation, green development, and public health. In fact, the COVID-19 pandemic of the past three years has further confirmed the same health philosophy. The concept has been validated in world health, food safety, environment and economy. The working method of One Health is currently widely adopted all over the world and is highly recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent and control various zoonotic diseases, such as the prevention and treatment of the COVID epidemic, the prevention of rabies, etc., to protect human, animal and environmental health.
