The Fifth CBCGDF Low Carbon Workshop - Maofeng Family Farm of Guanzhuang, Shanghang County was Established!

On July 22, 2022, the fifth low carbon workshop of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was established. The Maofeng Family Farm of Guanzhuang, Shanghang County is the fifth CBCGDF “low carbon workshop” with Number LCW-005. Before that, the local municipal committee actively communicated with CBCGDF for jointly promoting breed preservation of Guanzhuang spotted pig, and came to an agreement on jointly building a low carbon workshop.

Low Carbon Workshop (LCW) is a specific case model in carbon reduction and development of CBCGDF, which was officially established on June 21, 2022. The mission is: in order to help achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and promote sustainable development, the low carbon workshop is established to form a series of specific carbon reduction models by means of such active measures as technology, methods and innovation, to effectively reduce carbon emission and achieve the UN sustainable development goals. As a green development demonstration, the Low Carbon Workshop encourages widespread participation in all sectors of society, to share good stories of China’s green development with the world.

 

Maofeng Family Farm of Guanzhuang, Shanghang County

Guanzhuang spotted pigs are one of the eight major pig breeds in Fujian Province. They are native to Guanzhuang Township and Shanhu Township, Shanghang County, with a several-hundred-year history.

 

The Maofeng Family Farm has a full-scale facilities such as 650-square-meter pig houses, feed processing workshops and comprehensive office buildings. In the farm, there are more than 200 Guanzhuang spotted pigs on hand, with 3 boars and more than 20 sows that can produce. Therefore, the farm has the basic conditions for carrying out breed preservation and breeding.

 

The low carbon workshop establishment of Maofeng Family Farm of Guanzhuang, Shanghang County, is aimed to explore the coordinated efficiency of biodiversity conservation (preservation and breeding of traditional breeds) and climate change, and provide the best practice of energy saving and emission reduction, and resource utilization of waste materials in exploring the promotion of farmers’s sustainable livelihood.
