In October 2019, the volunteers of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) found that thick and black pollutants reappeared in Tengger. On November 7, Mr. Zhang, a CBCGDF’s volunteer, issued an article “Reappearance of Large-Scale Pollution Problem at the Edge of Tengger Desert, Adjacent to National Nature Reserve” which disclosed a shocking scene.

According to the survey, this pollution incident is closely related to "Ningxia Meili Paper Group environmental protection and energy-saving Co., Ltd." 14 pollution sites with a total area of 120000 square meters were found in the Meili forest area. At present, more than 42000 tons of black liquor has been excavated from the polluted forest land in Zhongwei city.

Why Zhongwei? Why Tengger?

In response to this situation, CBCGDF is an in-depth study and will take legal measures to actively safeguard ecological environment security.
