Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received a reply from Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd. Yunnan Baiyao responded to a letter issued by CBCGDF requesting it to disclose the "approval documents and related materials for the purchase and use of pangolin scales, as well as the source, inventory, and sales of pangolin scales".

In the reply letter, Yunnan Baiyao first stated: "All products of Yunnan Baiyao Group do not use ingredients from various parts of the pangolin body, including its scales." However, it also mentioned that its wholly-owned subsidiary "Yunnan Baiyao Group Traditional Chinese Medicine Resources Co., Ltd." The processed products of pangolin scales are mainly used to prepare decoction pieces and sell them to major hospitals in Yunnan Province; pangolin scales are mainly sold to medicinal materials and decoction pieces companies that have the qualification to produce or operate pangolin scales across the country.”
