Recently, Mr. Xie Boyang, Director of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) discussed the future planning for the work of Gross Ecosystem Product(GEP) with Dr.Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, Lu Shanlong, Vice President at the Research Institute of CBCGDF and associates at the Research Department of CBCGDF. Mr. Xie is also the counselor of the State Council of China.

Pu’er, located in Yunan Province, is home to rich biodiversity and natural resources. The city, considered as the hot spot of global biodiversity, showcases high forest cover and ecological value with temperate temperature and humidity.

CBCGDF is planning to put the GEP standard in Pu’er as a pilot project, which will become the significant guidance for ecological civilization, and for the regional assessment for the value of other areas’ natural resources and of developing lucid waters and lush mountains.

As International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) indicates, GEP is the total value of final ecosystem goods and services supplied to human well-being in a region annually and can be measured in terms of biophysical value and monetary value. Ecosystems that can be measured include natural ecosystems such as forests, grassland, wetland, desert, freshwater and ocean, and artificial systems that are based on natural processes like farmland, pastures, aquaculture farms, and urban green land, etc.
