On September 14th, volunteers from China Conservation Area for Libellula Angelina at Tianjin and Tianjin Media jointly participated in the “Protecting the Beach, Caring for Mother River” event held by Tianjin Municipal People’s Government. Volunteers came to Chaobai River to inspect the water ecological environment; however, they found a large number of illegal fishing boats and fishing nets in Baodi District of Chaobai River and even witnessed the fishermen fishing illegally at the scene.

After receiving the report from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) volunteers, the relevant fisheries administration and comprehensive law enforcement departments of Baodi District rushed to the area to direct removing and cleaning up the fishing nets and then organizing the removal of fishing boats.

When the volunteers of the CBCGDF were interviewed by reporters about what kind of volunteer activities they mainly did, the volunteers from China Conservation Area for Libellula Angelina at Tianjin answered that, “as long as it is harmful to the ecological environment, we should take care of it, whether it is flying in the sky, running on the ground or swimming in the water”. This is exactly the core of the whole CBCGDF’s China Conservation Area System, which is we should do the protect work anywhere and anytime, regardless of region and species.

Volunteers of the CBCGDF inspected the river and then found a large number of illegal bird-poaching nets in a millet field. Therefore, the volunteers again reported to law enforcement authorities and at the same time publicized the law to farmers who placed bird nets. Farmers consciously dismantled the bird nets and set up warning signs with volunteers together after they learned about the dangers of their behavior. Subsequently, the forestry staff of Baodi District at Tianjin arrived at the scene.
