On world environment day, June 5th, 2019, the fifth China Conservation Area for Dark and Starry Sky (CCAfa) of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) -- “China Conservation Area for Dark and Starry Sky at Geyuan" was formally established at the cultural center of Hengfeng county.

Mr. Xiao Qing, the Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF and Mr. Ren Xiaodong, the Director of Dark and Starry Sky Committee of CBCGDF, attended the awarding ceremony. Mr. Rao Qinghua, the party secretary of County, Mr. Li Haixing, the Deputy Secretary of County, Mr.Li Biliang ,Director of the Standing Committee of County, Mr. Yang Xueyuan, Committee Chairman of County, and other main leaders of Hengfeng County, Mr.Guanghui, the executive member of the council of Jiangxi Province Astronomy Society, the staff of Hengfeng Development and Reform Commission, County Ministry of Cultural and Tourism, and ecological environment bureau, it is about more than 600 people from those various government departments and township participated in the event and witnessed the formal establishment of “China Dark Sky Reserve · Geyuan”. Mr. Ge Zhuwu, the County Committee Member and Minister of propaganda department presided over the awarding ceremony.

Mr. Xiao Qing, the Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, said that CBCGDF will cooperate with Hengfeng County to pay attention to concern and support the construction and development of this CCA at Geyuan, and work together with Hengfeng County to explore the function and value in the biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, science education, forest health, beautiful villages and other aspects and help “Red Geyuan” become the model of happy home written by General Secretary Xi Jinping" Birds, Flowers, Clean Water, Green Shore, and Starry Skies”.

At the establishment ceremony, Mr. Li Biliang, Director of the construction headquarters of “China Conservation Area for Dark and Starry Sky at Geyuan” project and Director of the Standing Committee of County, introduced the preparation of the reserve project, especially a series of efforts for starry sky protection in the past year. Mr. Ren Xiaodong read out the CBCGDF “China Conservation Area for Dark and Starry Sky at Geyuan” approval document and certificate, Mr. Zhong Liang, Deputy County Chief accepted the certificate. So far, Geyuan has become the fifth region in the country to achieve this certificate and also is the only CBCGDF “China Conservation Area for Dark and Starry Sky” in Jiangxi province.

Mr. Rao Qinghua, the party secretary of County, confirmed that the establishment of this conservation area in Geyuan, Hengfeng county, is of great value and significance to the construction of ecological civilization and sustainable green development. He also said that it will give full play to the natural ecological advantages of Geyuan, build “China Conservation Area for Dark and Starry at Geyuan” into the promotion and dissemination of ecological civilization construction and promote the establishment of beautiful scenery in China.

As a cause of benefit to future generations and social significance, CBCGDF has been committed to promoting the establishment of dark and starry sky conservation areas throughout the country in recent years, guiding the public to have a better understanding of the concept of ecological civilization, striving for more public attention, thinking and action, and putting into practice the idea of jointly building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind. We will act as guardians and practitioners of building a better future.

In the future, CBCGDF will work more closely with Hengfeng County to provide guidance and suggestions on dark and starry sky conservation, biodiversity conservation, popular science tourism, and rural revitalization, and jointly build the dark and starry sky into a bright spot and business card of ecological landscape of Hengfeng County and Geyuan Town. The highlights and business cards of civilized construction play the role and value of the conservation area in environmental protection, popular science education, and eco-tourism, and help Geyuan become a beautiful landscape and practice base for the promotion and dissemination of ecological civilization construction and building beautiful China together.
