Hengfeng County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province is located in the northeastern part of Jiangxi Province and in the middle reaches of Xinjiang River. The name, Hengfeng, comes from the aura of Cen Moutain in the north and Ling Moutain in Shangrao County and its location. The revolution capital in the county-Geyuan has well preserved MinZhe(Wan) provincial government, provincial Soviet government, provincial military region and other revolutionary sites. It is rich in resources of revolution tourism. Hengfeng has a beautiful ecological environment and revolutionary culture heritage. The natural beauty is the soul of HengFeng. Many mountains stand. Rivers stream. Ancient trees swarm. The beautiful scenery is distinctive. The climate is pleasant. Green ecological resources are abundant. The forest coverage rate is as high as 63%.

Temperatures in Geyuan county are mild, with an annual average temperature of 16 ℃, annual rainfall of 1800-1900 mm, a frost-free period of 260 days. The territory is rich in water resources and has a large farmland irrigation area.

This place belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate, influenced by maritime monsoon. The climate is mild with distinctive four seasons and abundant rainfall. The maximum average temperature is 29.4℃ in July and the minimum average temperature is 6.1 ℃ in January. Humidity: The average relative humidity is 76% in many places. Sunshine: The average sunshine hour is 1886 hours for many years. Wind direction and speed: Southeast wind prevails in spring and summer. Northwest wind prevails in autumn. Northeast wind prevails in winter. The maximum wind speed is 15 m/s. The maximum average wind speed is 2.1m/s for many years.

In December 2018, CBCGDF Dark and starry Sky Working Committee were invited by the government of Hengfeng county, Jiangxi province to investigate the natural ecological status of Hengfeng county and the feasibility of cooperating in the construction of dark and starry sky protection site in Geyuan town. The Committee comprehensively researched and mastered the economic development, rural construction and natural ecological conditions of Geyuan town. After a careful investigation of a few key areas such as Shiqiao Village, Yashidi Village, Mitoujian, Banshanyuan, the Committee believes that Geyuan is a well-preserved ancient town with a thousand years’ history. It has a number of idyllic beautiful countries with cooking smoke, ancient trees, flowers and paddy fields, natural oxygen bar of lush thick forest, air permeability, good light sky quality, appropriate light pollution and so on. Rural roads and related supporting facilities are complete. All these conditions meet the standards for building China Dark and Starry Sky Conservation Area.

In order to further protect the resources of the dark and starry sky, CBCGDF Dark and starry Sky Working Committee decided to establish China Dark and Starry Sky Conservation Area at Geyuan after receiving the application submitted by Geyuan town and carefully reviewing according to the relevant procedure.

In the future, the two sides will work closely together to promote sky tourism, establishment of astronomical star science base, biodiversity protection, construction of beautiful countryside, natural ecological and environmental education, etc. to turn the dark and starry sky into a green ecological window and international card for eco-civilization construction and promotion of the sustainable development in Jiangxi province. The two sides can make use of the natural ecology and environmental protection, popular science education, forest health breeding, ecological leisure in Geyuan to help "revolutionary Geyuan" become a beautiful scenery line in carrying forward and spreading the construction of eco-civilization and promoting the construction of a beautiful China.
