In December, China Conservation Area for finless porpoises at Dalian continued to patrol the coastline. However, complaints from the local communities on the reclamation project were on the rise within the area.

After December 5, the construction company began the reclamation. Therefore, the director of the conservation area started to follow the ecological issues of this sea area and continued to promote the protection of finless porpoises, as well as learning the local policy.

In December, mainly on-site investigations were conducted in the waters near Longkou, Yantai, Shandong Province, while three lectures were held at Longkou Kindergarten. The director will also continue to pay attention to the habitat through Wechat network and keep on focusing on the status quo of the coastal zones of Dalian Black Rock Reef, Qixianling, Lingshui River and its estuary.

After the investigation, the director hereafter proposes five ideas to the protection law for finless porpoises. He highlights the importance of national experts, education, local communities, local fisheries, and law enforcement.

Finless porpoises are known to be taken in various fisheries throughout their range, including the Yangtze River. Direct exploitation, pollution, and habitat destruction are the factors in the status of this species. Classified as Endangered, a 2006 survey estimated the population of this freshwater sub-species at just 1,200-1,400.
