Since the establishment of the first China Conservation Area(CCAfa) in April 2016, CCAfa has covered more than 20 provinces across the country. On October 24th, the volunteers of CCA for Black Stork at Pingshan worked with Wang Xiaoyu, the director of CCA for Snow Crane at Bai Yangdian, to carry out a joint effort to rescue a Long-eared Owl (Asio Otus) in the market and successfully released it.

The long-eared owl (Asio otus), the Class II national protected animal in China, also known as the northern long-eared owl, is a species of owl which breeds in Europe, Asia, and North America. This species is a part of the larger grouping of owls known as typical owls, family Strigidae, which contains most species of owl.

The long-eared owl is a medium-sized owl, 31–40 cm (12–16 in) in length with an 86–100 cm (34–39 in) wingspan and a body mass of 178–435 g (6.3–15.3 oz).[3][4] It has erect blackish ear-tufts, which are positioned in the centre of the head. There are about six thousand long eared owls in the United States, and fifty thousand in the whole world.

In the meantime, CCA for Black Stork at Pingshan and CCA for Snow Crane at Bai Yangdian actively carried out various wildlife protection activities to protect the local ecological environment and biodiversity.

CBCGDF hopes that there will be more and more CCAfas would cooperate together to maximize their contributions by integrating their resources and volunteers.

Here, we would love to show our gargantuan gratitude to those who have been committed for the Community Conservation Areas. Thank you, our dear volunteers.
