Zhou Jinfeng Talked about the Volunteer Development and Youth Training

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) introduced that at present, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has more than 20,000 volunteers in China and issued volunteer certificates to those volunteers in need. This is also the embodiment that the construction of ecological civilization must rely on the people, and every citizen should be the responsible person and beneficiary of the construction of ecological civilization.

He also recalled his university days and his specialties with Tsinghua University, he said that he often went to Tsinghua University to study when he was a student at Peking University, and he had deep feelings for both universities. He said he was always willing to talk to young people even when he was very busy, with a particular focus on youth development, he also outlined the master's program in environmental law at Yale University and Georgetown University.

When sharing the messages with students, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng quoted Martin Niem?ller’s poem "First They Came…": They first came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, but by that time, there was no one left to speak up", to encourage young people to speak up in the public interest and to work together to preserve our environment.

At the end of the interview, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng also presented to students a book entitled “Environmental Public Interest Litigation Cases Selection (Volume 2018)”, which was edited by the CBCGDF and published by Law Press ? China.

Student Perception

After the interview, students said that they gained a lot and also expressed their feelings and ideas.

Zhang Yuzhen: In the course of the interview, Mr. Zhou conveyed to us a sense of justice of selfless dedication and braveness for the sake of the environment, which deeply inspired our young people.

Ji Yu: The CBCGDF is a courageous and responsible organization. During the interview, Mr. Zhou mentioned the plastic playground case and pangolin protection, among which the CBCGDF took an active part and always took the first place to call and work for the interests of a Chinese citizen and ecological protection. The professional accomplishment, professional ability, courage and sentiment of the CBCGDF are worth learning by everyone who pays close attention to environmental issues.

Zheng Kangyi: After interviewing Mr. Zhou, we have a deeper understanding of many core issues in environmental public interest litigation, and also feel that the CBCGDF and many enthusiastic environmental protection people are responsible for protecting the ecological environment and safeguarding environmental rights and interests. Environmental public interest litigation can not only be a matter of an individual or an organization but should firstly receive more attention from the "public", then become the "public" welfare.

Feng Shun: Through the communicating with Mr. Secretary-General Zhou Jinfeng, we also feel that the path of environmental public interest litigation is not very smooth, but we believe that with the efforts of the CBCGDF and with the support of the whole society, it will become much better!

Wei Junjie: During the interview with Mr. Zhou, I saw the responsibility of a public welfare person and a public welfare organization that “stand between the sky and ground, stand by the livelihood of people”. The CBCGDF is unwilling to let darkness grow wantonly and will take on the mission of the times and the heavy trust of the people. This justice and courage deeply inspired me to constantly moving upward and always keep a positive commitment.

Amaniissa Amer (阿曼尼萨·艾麦尔)During the interview with Secretary-General Zhou Jinfeng of the CBCGDF, I was deeply touched by the sense of responsibility of this public welfare predecessor. I also had a better understanding of the current situation and development of environmental public interest litigation. The environment is our public interest, and everyone in this society has the responsibility and obligation to protect the environment. "If we can't do anything, just give a thumbs-up", Mr. Zhou said. Our new generation of young people should shoulder their due responsibilities and make more contributions to the social environment.
