On the morning of March 2, China's Supreme People's Court held a press conference to publish "China Environmental Resources Trial 2017-2018", "China Environmental Justice Development Report 2017-2018" and typical cases of ecological environmental protection. Among the top 10 typical civil cases, the Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL) filed by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) against Qinhuangdao Fangyuan Packaging Glass Co., Ltd. on air pollution liability is the first public interest lawsuit on air pollution in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

After its acceptance by the court, the company has paid administrative fines, actively upgraded and renovated its environmental protection facilities, and became the first enterprise in the region in advanced environmental equipments.

According to the Supreme Court, the EPIL showcased the prevention and repair function of environmental civil public interest litigation, and also played a positive role in promoting enterprises to actively assume social responsibility for environmental protection and adoption. The EPIL oriented very good social impact.

China's Environmental Protection Law entitles NGOs to sue pollutors on behalf of public interest. Since 2015, CBCGDF has filed dozens of EPIL lawsuits to protect people's environmental rights. Every year, there are cases filed by the CBCGDF been listed as the country's Typical Cases.
