Poisonous running tracks in schools was already there before Beijing Olympic in 2008, the government has adopted measures to tackle the situation. However, it was a mere quick fix.

In 2015, the poisonous running tracks has even become a threat to social stability. The deadly problem was lying there for a very long term.

As Xinhua News reported, dozens of students at the Baiyunlu campus of Beijing No.2 Experimental School in Xicheng District suffered from nosebleeds, dizzy spells and coughs, after running on the track last month.

Tests on the track this week, nine months after it was put into use, showed excessive amounts of benzene substances and formaldehyde.

Similar cases have occurred in Jiangsu, Guangdong and other provinces.

The Ministry of Education said it has clear requirements for installation of synthetic racetracks in schools. However, the requirements have not been fully implemented in some areas.

Afterwards, Beijing's education authority launched an investigation into a synthetic racetrack at an elementary school that was emitting excessive amounts of poisonous substances.

To facilitate the process of the legislation and implementing stricter supervision, CBCGDF filed Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL) against several kindergartens in 2016, requiring them to remove the poisonous tracks.

In 2017 and 2018, news about the poisonous running tracks was no more heard. Pertinent laws and regulation have come out in 2018 as well.

Thanks to EPIL and joint efforts of the government and the public, children can run freely again, and parents can finally rest their mind.
