A Bosom Friend Afar Brings a Distant Land Near: Dialogues between CBCGDF’s volunteer in Qumarleb and British Extreme Athlete, CBCGDF’s volunteer Ash Dykes in the Source of Yangtze River

It’s exactly the phrase “The rainbow comes after the storm” - Facing -20DC, snow blizzards, seen wolves, bear, crossed 5,000+m mountain passes, stayed with monks, lost his film crew due to altitude and his guide, etc. It has been absolutely bonkers and there was a part of him that was in doubt that he’d make it to Qumarleb.

After a variety of physical and mental challenges, CBCGDF’s volunteer, the British extreme athlete Ash Dykes in his journey of “Mission Yangtze”, with the timely help and guidance of CBCGDF, and the strong support of the related management department from Qinghai Province, steadily moved forward and eventually arrived at his first “Checkpoint” Qumarleb County recently.

As the foreshadowing laid in the last newsletter (see http://www.cbcgdf.org/NewsShow/4937/6108.html): After arrive in Qumarleb with his team, Ash planned to meet with CBCGDF’s local volunteers there. They will meet and film related documentary materials on the theme of local eco-environmental and species conservation. Now, Ash and him team have arrived smoothly. What he sees and hears is indeed as he expected and even surpassed his expectations!

The guy warmly welcomes Ash is the volunteer of CBCGDF in Qumarleb County of Qinghai Province, whose name is Renzeng Duojie. The young man and Ash almost regretted they didn’t meet sooner. Standing on the plateau of the north source of Yangtze River, Ash and Duojie exchanged a lot. Ash was stunned by unexpected surprises: the modern Qumarleb County, the local species-rich habitat, and the English speaking Duojie. In addition to being convinced by the natural beauty of the surrounding, Ash is also attracted by the local humanity environment. He and Duojie exchanged information about local environmental protection, such as plastic pollution and conservation of species. Duojie told him that CBCGDF has a “China Conservation Area for Przewalski's Gazelle at Qinghai Lake”(CCAfa). The guardians of the rare species there, are also representatives of the outstanding volunteers from CBCGDF’s launching civil society for ecological conservation and green development.

Ash also learned about the current state of education in children's environmental protection in Qumarleb. Duojie also introduced the relevant legends of the Yangtze River in the local area and the relationship between the Mar River and Qumarleb County, which is the northern source of the Yangtze River. Ash couldn’t help but sighed: he ever doubted that whether he could really make it to Qumarleb in the face of setbacks – but right because of these rich experiences, he is winning the love of more fans around the world, with the attractiveness of his “Mission Yangtze” journey, “Beiye” Bear Grylls is paying closer attention to him on social media; the production company with the background of “Nat Geo” has been in contact with him, and the publishing house issued “Harry Potter” has talked with him as well, they all showed interests to follow up his “Mission Yangtze” journey backed by CBCGDF.

In the next ten days or so, Ash and his team plan to arrive at the next stop in Yushu of Qinghai Province. He invites CBCGDF’s friend together with the world, to follow him through GPS real-time satellite tracking system on his official website (see https://www.ashdykes.com/yangtze/live-tracker), check the whole route of his journey, and follow the information such as precise location/altitude/moving speed tightly.
