On 12th June, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received an invitation from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to The Thirteen Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP13). This conference will be held from 17 to 22 February 2020 in Gandhinagar, India. At that time, the CBCGDF will be invited to lead a delegation and participate in the meeting.

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), also known as the Bonn convention, aims to conserve terrestrial, marine and avian migratory species throughout their range. The Convention was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). As an observer of CMS convention and the only NGO partner in China, the CBCGDF will share practical experience in the protection of migratory species in China and spread good stories of biodiversity conservation in China.

Before this, the CBCGDF was invited to participate in the CMS COP12 held in the Philippines in 2017 and hosted the side-event with the theme on the “’Ecological Belt and Road’ initiative” about the great bustard (Otis tarda) case study on COP12. The CBCGDF emphasized the importance of conservation work, which attracted the attention of many domestic and international scholars and demonstrated China's international image and international role in protecting migratory species. In order to continue the concept of the conference, the CBCGDF plans to explore the theme of “protection of local species with far-reaching cultural significance in the context of urbanization”. Take the migration of Beijing Swifts as an example to hold relevant themed side-events. As a kind of migratory species, Swift not only has far-reaching cultural significance but also connects China and Africa. Just like the emissary for the initiative of ecological "the Belt and Road", Swift spreads China's ecological civilization and beautiful dreams to a distant place. This is also a way to tell the good stories of China and spread the good voices of China with wild animals. It is necessary for the international community to understand, recognize and support.

The CBCGDF immediately starts to prepare for the event and welcomes interested organizations to join us to hold side-events and exhibitions. We hope that we can actively participate in the multiparty talks about migratory species at CMS COP13 and establish international cooperation, so as to make biodiversity conservation actions to effectively promote the construction of ecological civilization and better earth for humanity.
