CBCGDF Had a Teleconference with Its Specialist Balakrishna Pisupati

In February 2019, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity issued the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (discussion paper), which clearly states: "Encourage indigenous peoples and local communities, as well as all relevant organizations and stakeholders, to consider developing biodiversity commitments that may contribute to the realization of the three objectives of the Convention before the COP15." The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAPS) promotes Aichi's goals and contributes to an effective global biodiversity framework after 2020.

 

In order to promote the support of non-governmental organizations, social organizations, experts and scholars for the development of biodiversity conservation in China, CBD COP15 conference is approaching in China, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held a teleconference on the afternoon of March 5 with Mr. Balakrishna Pisupati, the famous Indian biodiversity expert and chairman of the Law/Environment/Development and Governance Forum. The meeting held a series of discussions on the preparations for CBD COP15 in 2020.

 

At the meeting, Mr. Balakrishna Pisupati first asked about the action goals and outlook of CBD COP15 of CBCGDF. In this regard, the representatives of the CBCGDF emphasized the importance of public participation by introducing the establishment of the CCafa system. By encouraging and supporting local volunteers, non-governmental organizations and communities to join, the system promotes mutual assistance with public participation as the core.

 

Mr. Balakrishna Pisupati also paid great attention to the preparations for the China International Forum on Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development organized by CBCGDF on May 22. The representative of the CBCGDF mentioned that he hoped that the forum would bring together stakeholders such as the public, social organizations and the private sector to better participate in biodiversity conservation so as to maximize the strength of non-governmental organizations.

 

Mr. Balakrishna Pisupati also suggested that the CBGDF could encourage different stakeholders, especially the general public interactive with social media by publishing pictures and using one sentence to express its expectations for biodiversity and CBD COP15, gathering strength civil forces to propose constructive suggestions for CBD COP15, and promoting the development of biodiversity conservation in China.

 

At the meeting, he also invited CBCGDF to host the Online Seminar, to introduce and discuss the global biodiversity goals after 2020 and the important issues of CBD COP15. Through setting up the network platform, we can invite guests and let the non-governmental forces participate in CBD COP15 to understand how to dialogue with the government. Each participant can put forward relevant environmental protection suggestions, which are reported to CBD COP15 and written into the Convention on Biological Diversity. CBCGDF will give great support for that.

 

The teleconference focused on the preparatory work of CBD COP15 and expressed the good vision of CBD COP15 successfully held in China and the positive efforts made by the two sides for the conservation and sustainable development of biodiversity in the world.
