28 December 2018-Dr. Zhou Jinfeng met three young founders of Pumbaa Eco after their three months of field visits in East Africa.

In the beginning, Tian Yang, co-founder of Pumbaa Eco briefly described the field visits. On November 2018, with the support of CBCGDF and six months of preparation, three young conservationists- Zhu Qing, Tian Yang, Pan Qing’an started their journey in East Africa. Starting from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, they went to Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania to visit more than 10 non-profit organizations, national forest parks, and private protected areas, as well as various governments and companies.

During this trip, they visited African Wildlife Fund(AWF), saw the world's most magnificent wild animal migration in Masai Mara, tracked chimpanzees in Uganda National Forest Park, and saw the world's two remaining northern white rhinoceros in the black rhinoceros protected area.

Then he said that after these visits, he found that Africa was overall an undeveloped paradise-integration of conservation, community and ecotourism were surprisingly great in protected areas. These cases were worth studying for national protected areas and CCAfa.

In the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, Pumbaa Eco hopes that Chinese companies map out the pollutant in advance to avoid environmental pollution. While developing ecotourism, exchange of cultures is also necessary.

Zhu Qing, Founder of the Pumbaa Eco, added that Uganda was the country they did lots of research on during this trip. According to their field research, in Uganda, the relationship between Chinese entrepreneurs and the local government is harmonious, and the local ecological environment is also great. It was the only country that they could see lions on the trees. Zhu Qing hoped that in the future Pumbaa Eco will be able to set up a basement in Uganda forests to serve Chinese travelers.

Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF greatly appreciated the research results of the Pumbaa Eco team and expressed his support. He said that whether it is to help Chinese enterprises go global, or promote the development of China-Africa tourism, or in the construction of protected areas, they all should be based on ecological civilization. Chinese enterprises cannot have the concept of “destroying first and protecting later” when going global but should build a project that meets the requirements of ecological civilization from the very beginning. The same is true for ecotourism and protected land construction.
