On June 11, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) arrived in Stockholm to attend the Policy Roundtable organized by the Government of Sweden and EAT, and EAT Stockholm Food Forum with the invitation of the Department of International Cooperation and Development. He shares what he has found: a door hanger in a Swedish hotel.
It reads: Make A Difference- Say no thanks to room cleaning. It saves our planet on the front. It calls on hotel guests to hang the card outside the door.
On the other side of the card, it reads A Simple Act for a Great Cause. Every month more than 30,000 of our guests hang this sign outside their door. In addition to saving our planet, it gives more than 400,000 children a safe night, in a safe bed every year. Your good act helps children have sweet dreams and contribute to a better planet! Thank You! The website nordicchoicehotels.com/ sweet dream is at the bottom of the card.
This is an initiative called Sweet Dreams Stay and launched by Nordic Choice Hotel, which aims to crack down on child trafficking. Nordic Choice Hotels and United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) corporate to help vulnerable children. Sweet Dreams Stay has successfully raised over 12 million kronor in only one year, a donation which maintains about 300 thousand safe nights for child victims of human trafficking.
If a hotel guest is staying two or more consecutive nights, he or she has the chance to support the Sweet Dreams Stay project. Every time the guest chooses to forego cleaning, the hotel will donate 10 NOK to UNICEF to aid their efforts in helping children at risk of human trafficking.
Dr. Zhou says we should make similar door hangers. CBCGDF plans to launch such projects, appealing hotels to mainstream green and sustainable tourism.
