The sight of plastic bags everywhere on the street, plastic bottles discarded in the corner, and takeout boxes piled up like mountains, makes people feel so sad.

In recent years, plastic pollution has brought many hazards to the earth's environment and human health, which has made more and more people realize the importance and urgency of plastic pollution reduction work. Mobilizing the active participation of the whole society is the top priority of plastic pollution reduction work. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) as an environmental protection public welfare organization, actively carries out actions in the field of plastic pollution reduction, and promotes the awareness of plastic pollution reduction of the whole society:

1. Plastic reduction and plastic picking: appeal to the public to join in the action of plastic reduction and plastic picking. The CBCGDF advocates Green Life and Sustainable Consumption. For example, reducing the use of disposable plastic bags when you go shopping; protecting the public environment and picking up discarded plastic garbage and so on.

2. To Sue relevant takeaway enterprises and resist plastic pollution. The rapid rise of the takeaway industry has brought great convenience to people's work and life, but the fast-order service of network platform has not provided "the option of providing disposable tableware". It makes users default to the use of disposable tableware when ordering directly, resulting in excessive packaging and more and more plastic pollution and waste of resources. With the joint efforts of CBCGDF and other environmental NGOs, some takeaway enterprises were prosecuted. Eventually, these takeaway enterprises began to increase the option of "0" in August 2017.

3. Advocate green conference. When large-scale meetings are held, bottled water is placed in front of each participant, and thousands of water bottles are thrown away after a meeting, which often produces a large amount of plastic waste. For example, at the 2018 Silicon Valley high-tech summit, Secretary General Zhou Jinfeng of the CBCGDF advocated the green bottle action, calling for all kinds of conferences to reduce the use of plastic bottles and provide water fountains and teacups.

4. Oppose the use of plastic flowers: for example, many hotels choose plastic flowers to decorate the facade; Beijing Haidian District, Sijiqing, the town government entrance is decorated with plastic flowers, etc., Because plastic flowers and other plastic waste are difficult to degrade. The use of plastic flowers has caused deep concern of the CBCGDF. After the GBCGDF proposed, the Sijiqing Town Government and a hotel have also removed the plastic flowers.

5. Campus plastic reduction: CBCGDF advised the campus not to use plastic book covers. The use of plastic book covers not only pollutes the environment but when the children's hands touch foods after touching the book cover, they will take molecules into the body and cause harm to their health. Therefore, CBCGDF advocated not using plastic book covers. It is best to use environmentally-friendly materials that can degrade and not pollute the environment. For example, old newspapers and calendars that are commonly used in homes. It could save money and not pollute the environment.

6. Oppose the toxic plastic track on campus. In 2017, CBCGDF filed an environmental public interest lawsuit, arguing that the plastic track laid in a kindergarten in Beijing emits irritating odors, causing soil and air pollution, which seriously damages children's health. During the court hearing, the kindergarten offered to mediate and agreed to dismantle the plastic runways laid in all the kindergartens opened in Beijing and Shanghai and to lay natural lawns. This "poisonous runway" event was named one of the top ten cases in the promotion of the rule of law in 2017.

CBCGDF has set an example for all sectors of society in its efforts to reduce plastic pollution. The problem of plastic pollution in China cannot be ignored, and the responsibility of NGOs still has a long way to go. CBCGDF will hope that through the efforts, the green lifestyle will be deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and the construction of China's ecological civilization will be feasible.
