During April 29 - May 4, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), is going to visit Paris and attend the “Seventh Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services” (IPBES 7) to be held there. The overall objective of this visit is to gain insight into the most recent status of biodiversity and ecosystem services, based upon which future work surrounding biodiversity conservation and sustainable development may be structured and implemented.

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is the intergovernmental body which responds to requests from decision makers by providing an assessment of the status of its biodiversity and ecosystem services. The "Seventh Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services" (IPBES 7) will be co-organized by the Government of France and the IPBES Secretariat, whose purpose (among others) is to consider adoption of a draft Strategic Framework up to 2030. Aimed for advancing IPBES's overall mission, which is to strengthen the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being, and sustainable development, this Strategic Framework highlights in particular collaboration among science, policy, and practice. Its desired outcomes include providing support for the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, and the 2050 Vision for Biodiversity, as well as clarifying on links between biodiversity and Climate Change.

Science-Policy oriented protection efforts remain one core of CBCGDF’s work. For instance, CBCGDF has established the “Research Center for Green Economic Development”, which is intended to help resolve conflicts between economic development and environmental protection, as one attempt to tackle the unprecedented challenges facing the planetary ecosystem and natural resources today. Besides, CBCGDF is a keen supporter of the development of microbe-based technology, because of its extremely wide application potential in various areas like Soil Environment Management, Water Environment Management, Waste Treatment, Agriculture and Husbandry, Food Processing, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Bioscience. Enhancing existing regulations on product inspection procedures (e.g. those for cosmetics), and promoting restrictions on the use of animal furs, have also been strongly recommended by CBCGDF, as a way of utilizing policy tools to protect consumer and animal rights.

More details on CBCGDF's further involvement in IPBES 7 can be followed at our news platform (http://www.cbcgdf.org/English/index.html). And we sincerely welcome each and every suggestion to help us voice CBCGDF's and China's perspectives on this international occasion.
