Recently, CBCGDF was invited to recommend young staff to apply for the Young Scientist Development Project initiated by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).

To better adapt to the constant global change in the new era, the project is set up to support young scientists working in organizations in affiliation to CAST to attend international meetings or to join international organizations. It is required that the candidates are in their early career years and actively engaged in international organizations and activities. It is also necessary that they are listed in the reserve team of international organizations. The project mainly funds those who are modest, enjoy learning new things, and join in international work with clear visions.

One outstanding candidate CBCGDF recommended, is from the Research Department. He is humbling, working hard, experienced, curious and down-to-earth. He has led many projects of CBCGDF and is particularly experienced in CBCGDF “China Conservation Area for Something at Somewhere” (CCAfa) system. CCAfa is an innovative approach connects fragmented protected areas by mobilizing civil society’s participating in the protection of wildlife, relic sites, dark and starry sky areas, etc. For instance, recently, “China Conservation Area for Waterfowl at Tangshan” rescued a baby spotted seal, was given an adorable Chinese name “Gousheng”. The exciting news is it will be field released soon after recovering.

CBCGDF embraces educating and promoting the young generation’s broadly participating in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. To this end, CBCGDF has built its own specific branches of Green Kids and Green Great.

In this background, CBCGDF’s delegation is under preparation currently, for attending the CITES COP18, aims for a fruitful exchange with international colleagues on issues including tackling endangered species’ conservation, anti-poaching, relevant policymaking discussions with multi-stakeholders, wildlife protection, and so on.
