Located in Southwest China, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau covers the entire Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province, in addition to parts of Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu and Xinjiang. It is about 2.6 million sq km in area and most of it lies at an altitude of more than 4,000 m above sea level. Hailed as the “roof of the world”, the “third pole” and the “water tower of Asia”, the Plateau is a natural habitat for rare animals and a gene pool of plateau life. Ecological progress on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has a vital bearing on sustainable growth in the region and environmental protection in China and around the globe.

To better tell the story of China’s advanced ecological protection solutions for the world third pole by private entrepreneurs of China, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, with the support of the All-china Federation of Industry and Commerce the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship With Foreign Countries, organizes the event “Eco-protection to the World 3rd Pole” held at Green Tent in the 4th UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4).

The Eco-protection to the World 3rd Pole aims at exploring more scientific guide for ecological environment protection of "the World’s Third Pole" and building a platform for the cooperation with international environmental organizations, to enhance the development of ecological construction of Tibet and contribute to China to fully realize the national vision of ecological civilization objective.

Meanwhile, it is to analyze problems and difficulties encountered in the protection of ecological environment of the World’s Third Pole to seek the most innovative and sustainable solutions, the highest sophisticated technology and the most practical solution. We hope to build a communication bridge with international environmental protection organizations and experts, to contribute jointly to global ecological environment.

We look forward to discussing with you on problems and challenges currently encountered in the protection of ecological environment of the World 3rd Pole, to jointly create innovative ideas, state-of-the-art technologies and the most practical solutions, allowing us to have a better home of the Earth.
