2019 China International Biodiversity Conservation for Sustainable Development Forum (Tentative)
2019/2/25 15:02:00 本站

In 1992 153 countries including China signed the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking the start of a global commitment to conservation and sustainable development. For more than 20 years, China has actively worked to meet its obligations under CBD, and has taken the lead in setting up the China National Committee for Biodiversity Conservation to coordinate the national biodiversity conservation. Since it’s commencement it has published and implemented the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2011-2030) and the “China's Action on UN Decade on Biodiversity”. However conservation efforts to date have proven insufficient to stem the decline, and international targets aiming to expand the extent of protected areas are in danger of not being met.

To commemorate the International Day for Biodiversity (May 22), China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) will hold the 2019 China International Biodiversity Conservation for Sustainable Development Forum (CIBCSD) in China (May20-22 2019). The forum will gather inputs and best practices from various stakeholders, and initiate commitments towards conservation and sustainable development, to further enhance public awareness of biodiversity conservation and create a good atmosphere for the society to care for, support and participate in biodiversity conservation. CIBCSD emphasizes the importance of public participation by non-state actors including corporations, private financial institutions, and NGOs.

This forum, based on the principles of innovation, sustainability, openness and sharing, promotes ecological civilization and biodiversity conservation in China, and contribute to the construction of beautiful China. CBCGDF invites all the stakeholders including decision and policymakers and non-state actors from all over the world to attend and present their perspectives at the CIBCSD.

The Forum aims to explore how to manifest ecological civilization in the Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework by addressing the underlying causes of biodiversity loss by mainstreaming biodiversity across government and society and promoting sustainable development to reduce direct pressure on biodiversity. This meeting will also be a preparatory step for the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in China in 2020.
