Advocating green development and tackling climate change has long been one of the core work of CBCGDF, which includes promoting eco-civilization and green development, calling for accelerated decarbonization, carrying out environmental public interest litigation to actively safeguard public interests of the environment; environmental law researching and decision-making consulting; actively participating in the global environmental governance platform; advocating "good food" -climate-friendly diet; protecting biodiversity and making cities more resilient to climate change; controlling light pollution and protecting dark night; organizing activities related to climate change; conducting environmental education and raising public's awareness; encouraging enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities of environmental protection, etc. As Secretary-General Dr. Zhou Jinfeng said, actions to slow down climate change are in small things in our daily life and CBCGDF has been working hard on this.

On January 21, 2019, Dr. Patrick Verkooijen, the CEO of Global Commission on Adaptation visited China. CBCGDF representatives are invited to participate in "Global Commission on Adaptation lectures" held in the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. We got to know some important persons. We established a relationship with Dr. Patrick Verkooijen, Minister to the Netherlands, Dr. Bas Pulles-the Deputy Director, EU policy officials, etc. We plan to invite them by email to attend "2019 China International Forum on Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development" organized by CBCGDF.

Global Commission on Adaptation is under the leadership of former UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, and the World Bank's Chief Executive, Christakis Rena Georgie, which consists of dozens of influential global leaders. It is committed to improving government's emphasis on adaptation and focuses on the corresponding solutions. China is one of the 17 initiator countries. Patrick Verkooijen serves as CEO of Global Commission on Adaptation

At the beginning of the meeting, Patrick Verkooijen delivered a speech. He mentioned that climate change is a very important issue. Temperatures are bound to rise in the future, and the solution now is to mitigate it as well as to adapt to climate change. The Netherlands has taken the initiative and established a global adaptation center, which will work together with other countries in the world to tackle the climate challenge facing mankind. In the near future, the center will fully prepare for the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit in 2019 and release the global climate survey. At the same time, this will also lay a foundation for the International Summit on Climate Adaptation in the Netherlands in 2020. In terms of Sino-Netherlands cooperation, Patrick Verkooijen added that China and the Netherlands and other countries can make use of their complementary advantages to deepen cooperation on climate adaptation in the fields of modern agriculture, high technology, and new energy, foster new growth points of climate cooperation, strengthen humanities exchanges on climate adaptation and jointly tackle climate change.

In his speech, Sun, Director General of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, mentioned that adaptation to climate change should solve psychological problems. First, people do not believe that the climate has changed. Second, some people do not believe that climate change can be solved through sustainable development. Third, there are those who do not believe that climate change can be solved through international cooperation. Therefore, we need to lead people to change their mentality and take the initiative to adapt to climate change. This is very important. It is a philosophical problem, which should be solved. As President Xi Jinping has put forward eco-civilization and a community of shared future for mankind, we need to attach equal importance to mitigating and adapting to climate change and make every effort to promote climate change through legal, administrative, technological, market means, etc.
