The Secretary-General of CBCGDF Dr. Zhou Jinfeng Expresses Deep Sadness over China's Loss of One Most Respectful Friend and Colleague Dr. Bradnee Chambers

This is a tragic and irrevocable loss for me, our colleagues in China, and the world, for no longer being allowed to work together and confront the worldwide environmental emergency with our dearest friend and colleague Mr. Bradnee Chambers.

Dr. Chambers' unreserved devotion to work and undiminished enthusiasm for the environmental endeavor will become an unfading guide rod for all, who undertake the mission of striving for a harmonious human-nature relation and a better world for future generations.

My first acquaintance with Dr. Chambers was at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawaii in September 2016. Dr. Chambers' work ethic deeply moved me during our short communication, and we soon became friends with our shared vision of China becoming a Party of the UN Convention on Migratory Species. Later, Dr. Chamber' visit to Beijing and CBCGDF further enhanced our friendship. Despite his rather tight schedule and an accident with his luggage at the airport, Dr. Chambers prioritized our work and spared no effort in promoting China to become a member of CMS. In fact, because of the luggage accident, Dr. Chambers willingly accepted my suggestion of buying suits and ties as an alternative, and such flexibility and generosity as shown by him should be an exemplar for all.

Dr. Chambers’ clear vision of globalized cooperation in solving worldwide environmental issues, and his unrelenting practice of it, have also been repeatedly manifested during our work. Dr. Chambers actively exploited the potential of German government delegates’ visit to China in encouraging China to join CMS. And at the 2018 December Poland UNFCCC COP24 and during our most recent communications, Dr. Chambers and I worked together on the participation of the DPRK in CMS, with fruitful results. We had also made plans for meetings on CMS endeavors in the DPRK at the beginning of 2019.

Our loss of Dr. Chambers is unexpected and sad. Dr. Chambers will be remembered dearly by me and all his colleagues in China.
