How CBCGDF Protects the Starry Sky? Speech Delivered in the Second Star Party

During December 1st and 2nd 2018, the second Star Party of Yangtze River Delta was held in Tianchi, Zhejiang.

 

A number of astronomy experts and scholars, lovers, and astronomy manufacturers were invited to exchange insights, develop capacity on astronomy and pertinent content, appreciate photography, and experience the latest exciting astronomy equipment, capture the beauty of dark sky by cameras.


In the Speech, Ren Xiaodong, the CBCGDF representative and the director of CBCGDF Starry Sky Working Committee, expressed his worries on the light pollution on the environment and human. He then shared the experience of how CBCGDF protected the starry sky. CBCGDF has established the China Conservation Area in such places as Ali, Naqu, Jiangsu, and Taihanghonggu.

 

Astronomy plays a significant role in our daily life. It exerts a great impact on human’s value on nature. In ancient times, the astronomers define time, calendar and directions by observing the sun, the moon, and other celestial bodies. If we count from the day since human begin to observe and record the celestial bodies, astronomy has a history of over 5000 years.

 

The Pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge in Europe are the world’s most famous prehistoric astronomical monuments. The Heliocentric system proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus liberated nature science from theology. With the development of the astronomy, the social society has benefited in a tremendous way, guiding human to explore the mystery of the universe and explore ourselves in a deeper way.
