In the information age, online illegal wildlife trade becomes more and more difficult to detect. We find that increased transactions are going on in small circles on social media, and it's hard for outsiders to get in. CBCGDF volunteers often lurk and conduct underground trade surveys. For example, yesterday, a CBCGDF volunteer reported to us there's a Guangxi-based Wechat group had been engaged in illegal wildlife trading for a long time.

Even freshwater protected species are among the victims of dispersed and decentralized online wildlife trading. For example, CBCGDF's Oppose Electrofishing Union reported in August that some people selling endangered fish ( including Chinese Giant Salamanders and Chinese suckers) for a long time. However, three months later after our tipoff, it has not been filed yet because competent authorities thought   "evidence is insufficient".

Fighting illegal wildlife trading is among the CBCGDF's focal points. Highly worried, Dr Jinfeng Zhou, the Beijing-based NGO's Secretary-General, introduced this situation to CCTV journalists and called for stricter law enforcement and more public education to enable greater engagement in wildlife conservation.
