A Graduate Student from Utrecht University Visited CBCGDF and had an in-Depth Discussion on EPIL Topic

Lately, Peer Michaelis, a graduate student studies international law of the sea and international environmental law at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, visited the CBCGDF office to gain an in-depth understanding of CBCGDF’s historical efforts on areas including the CCAfa system, Wetland Protection and Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL) , as well as the approaches that environmental NGOs conduct. The in-depth exchanges covered on various topics such as political participation and so on.

 

Under the guidance and implementation of the "Going Out, Inviting In" approach, there are more and more international students are focuses on fast-developing China. As a social organization dedicated to the ecological environmental protection and sustainable development, CBCGDF has always attached importance to exchanges with international organizations and scholars, and actively shares stories on China's ecological environmental protection.

 

During the discussion, the CBCGDF colleagues gave Peer a highlight of the twists and turns that CBCGDF's efforts involving filing the EPIL cases of the "Tengger Desert Pollution" and the “Toxic Synthetic Plastic Running Tracks”. The two cases have both rated as the textbook cases listed by the Supreme People's Court in China. Peer expressed his surprise and praise for the rapid development of CBCGDF and the outstanding achievements in just a few years.

 

According to Peer, his graduate thesis is about climate change and genetic modification under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Paris Agreement, and he also looks forward to working with the 15th Conference of the Parties of the CBD in Beijing in 2020. He highly anticipates further exchanges with CBCGDF on the area of EPIL.
