In late May 2020, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) volunteer Mr. Hong learned from social media that a road and bridge company in Xingtai, Hebei Province, out of love, set up signs and fences to protect the sand martin habitat along the road at its own expense. It has been visually observed that there are about 1,500 pairs of birds, which has formed a good spot for bird watching. After the field visit, the volunteer reflected the matter to the CBCGDF, hoping to promote scientific protection by referring to the case of sand martin protection in Yuanshi County, Hebei Province.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF pointed out that to solve the fundamental problems, this project should not be temporarily suspended, or wait for the sand martins to breed and then start construction; instead, the overall planning and design should be changed to complete the area suitable for the sand martin. Preserve and conserve its natural appearance permanently. Just like the adjustment of the river channel renovation plan in Yuanshi County, to keep the sand martin's nests forever.

Similar problems should be solved around the idea of protecting biodiversity, try to take feasible protection measures in the target area, and preserve the habitat of sand martin and other species, so that they can be used continuously in the future. It is not simply to avoid and wait, and then artificially repair and demolish these nests. It should be known that once this natural environment is destroyed, the habitat of the sand martin will be reduced, which may lead to the loss of biodiversity. We should not delude ourselves.
