How to Transform the Domestication and Breeding Industry of Wild Animals Under the “Comprehensive Ban of Wildlife” Decision (III)

The transformation of the industry often requires a certain period of time, and it also requires policy support and incentives from relevant departments. In the "Key Points of Agricultural and Rural Green Development in 2020" recently released by the relevant departments, "Strengthen the protection of agricultural biodiversity. Strengthen the management of agricultural wild plant resources, promote the improvement of the national list of key protected wild plants, carry out surveys of agricultural wild plant resources rescue collection ". We believe that it is commendable that national ministries and commissions issue green development guidance documents to promote biodiversity conservation. But there is still a little lack: there is no mention of the content of traditional native livestock and poultry breeds in China for thousands of years. For the green development and sustainable development of traditional livestock and other Chinese unique breeds, the protection of agricultural biodiversity still vacant.

Guided by ecological civilization, strengthening the protection of agricultural biodiversity is not only related to the safety and supply security of agricultural products, but also an effective driving force to achieve biosecurity in China. It can be said that biodiversity is a green bank and the essence of green development. Only by recognizing and paying attention to this issue will there be protection, and then inheritance and sustainable development will be achieved, which will also help to open up a new situation in the overall situation of the country: protect and inherit our country’s traditional breeds, encourage breeding, provide policy support and preference. In order to connect with the current situation of China ’s comprehensive ban on illegal wildlife trade, the elimination of the abuse of wild animals, and the effective protection of the lives and health of the people, the domestication and breeding industries of wild animals are facing green transformation issues. At the same time, it also provides an effective solution for the sustainable livelihoods of a large number of practitioners with experience in animal domestication and reproduction.

In short: China should guide the wild animal domestication and breeding industry towards traditional livestock breeding to carry out a green transformation, increase financial support for this transformation, and encourage the use of market supporting mechanisms, with a view to establishing a comprehensive support system for the conservation and sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity in China. This move can both "curb the symptoms" and provide solutions to current urgent problems; it is also conducive to "fixing the root causes"-from a long-term perspective to ensure China's food security and biological security.
