Wildlife-Free E-Commerce Initiative is jointly organized by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Toxics-Free Corps, Anti-poaching group, Grassland of the Union, Natural Fields, Return to the wilderness and other NGOs. According to the China Wildlife Protection Law, report the illegal wildlife products which are sold on the major e-commerce platforms, urge e-commerce platform to take measures such as remove related products, reduce public health risks and biosafety risks, and then protect wildlife.

In the past month, we have advocate e-commerce platforms such as Taobao, Buy Together, JD and IDLEFISH apps. We hope that pangolin, gecko, Saussurea involucrata, birds of prey, forest frog and other wildlife products, as well as hunting tools, will be removed from an e-commerce platform.

There are three ways to advocate Wildlife-Free E-Commerce:

First, report the no-conformance products sold by the merchants to the e-commerce platform.

Second, report to the regulatory authorities that there are problems with the wildlife products sold on the e-commerce platform.

Third, We Media, such as WeChat official account and Weibo, which advocate the announcement of information about wildlife products sold on e-commerce platforms, ask the merchants to deal with it.

In February, the Wildlife-Free E-Commerce action team selected four national protected wildlife for e-commerce platforms to promote the sale of products, including pangolin (national level II), gecko (national level II), birds of prey (national level II), Saussurea involucrata (national level II) and other representative wildlife.

Taobao: from February 20 to 28, 2020, the Wildlife-Free E-Commerce action team launched the remove pangolin, gecko and other wildlife products sold on taobao.com. At present, Taobao has already removed the pangolin products. However, most of the products of gecko have been removed from the platform. Also, we found that Taobao also sells Saussurea involucrata. (It is the second level national protected plant, and if it continues to be dug, it may become an endangered species.)

Buy Together: on February 29, 2020, the Wildlife-Free E-Commerce action team removed four national key protected wildlife-related products, pangolin, Saussurea involucrata, gecko and birds of prey, which were sold on Buy Together. In the afternoon of that day, Buy Together remove those products. It involves hundreds of merchants.

JD: we didn't find any pangolin or gecko for sale, but there was Saussurea involucrata for sale.

Also, the action team fed back to an e-commerce platform for more than 70 kinds of wildlife products sold on various platforms. Now, a large number of wildlife products are removed from platforms every day. We will keep updating the information.

Wildlife crime is one of the most common and most expensive types of international organized crime in the world, with a global annual profit of 10 billion dollars. Its annual value is second only to that of drugs, human trafficking, and arms smuggling. According to the feedback from the volunteer teams of CBCGDF, it is estimated that there are hundreds of illegal wildlife trade markets distributed around the country, and there are many hidden online illegal trade in progress, quietly eroding the achievements of ecological civilization construction. Through fighting against the illegal wildlife trade on the online platform, assisting the e-commerce platform to fulfill its environmental protection social responsibilities and obligations, preventing biosafety risks, and helping China's ecological environment protection and ecological civilization construction. The Chinese folk " Wildlife-Free E-Commerce" is fighting!
