The 2nd China Ecological Agricultural Industry Conference, co-organized by China Ecological Agricultural Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and numerous social organizations in the field of agriculture, was convened on September 21 under the guidance of the Reform of the central office and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China. As a social organization that has been long focusing on agrobiodiversity and sustainable development, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) sent delegates to participate in the Conference.

Agriculture is facing three challenges: biodiversity loss, climate change, and soil contamination. Taking bee as an example, pollinator plays a significant role in the development of ecological agriculture. To protect this species, CBCGDF establishes the Community Conservation Area for bee at Tongbai Mountain.

Plant and crop genetic resources are also key to biodiversity conservation. Many crops are in the face of obstacles triggered by climate change, for instance, a longer growing season for some crops in China and the changing planting boundary.

CBCGDF was recognized as the observer of the FAO International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) in 2017 and has kept close contacts and cooperation with the FAO to promote the conservation of plant genetic resources.

According to the statistics by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2014, the polluted arable land covered an area of 349 million mu (about 23.3 million hectares), if the gross area was calculated as 1.8 billion mu (about 120 hectares). CBCGDF organized a seminar on the draft Soil Pollution Prevention and Control Law and filed environmental public interest litigation (EPIL) to safeguard soil safety.

CBCGDF will continue its efforts to promote the development of ecological agriculture.
