Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited by Guangdong Wildlife Center to the Workshop on Pangolin Rescue. The workshop is held at 10 am on April 16th in Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong Province which is the hotspot where tonnes of pangolin scales were seized annually. For example, simply in September 2019, Guangzhou Customs seized 7.26 tonnes of pangolin scales. The workshop aims to further explore solutions to pangolin trafficking and breeding technology so as to effectively carry out the conservation for pangolins.

Pangolins are considered as one of the most heavily trafficked mammals. Theses defenseless little being are being slaughtered to extinction and exploited by greed, simply to meet a demand based on superstitions. Experts warn that the illegal trade in pangolins will render them extinct within our lifetime – yet most people have never heard of a pangolin!

CBCGDF volunteer “Africa Warrior” is conducting her research in Nigeria and finds that pangolins could be found easily, and the pangolin trade is still popular. And they are mostly consumed by the Chinese. In Nigerian markets, one pangolin, among other wild meat, is sold at a price of 15,000 nairas (around 300 RMB), and a kilo of pangolin scales at a price of 10000 nairas (about 190RMB).
