2-According to the latest news from Mr. Tian Jiguang, Director at CCA for Water Birds at Tangshan of CBCGDF, a two-month-old spotted seal was found and rescued by the team on 21st February.

The spotted seal was found by workers at a coastal construction site in Tangshan. They tried to lead it to the sea but failed. Therefore, they immediately contact the local rescue department to consult what the species is. Later, the workers reached out to CCA for Water Birds at Tangshan for rescue. Mr. Tian and the local forest police came to the site in no time.

The baby seal just grows fine hair on the head and was not ready to be put in the water. Led by Dr. Tian, the rescue team and the workers carry the baby seal in a 3-meter-long cage.

CBCGDF held a consultative meeting soon after it heard the news to contribute experience, wisdom and necessary assistance.

Mr. Tian said that the spotted seal was aged around two months old in a defensive state. He suggested feeding the spotted seal with smashed black carps and milk by milk bottle. He stated that it’s better to put cardboard on the cage instead of allotting it in the water or dried place. If it insisted not to be fed, it was okay to leave it for one or two days.

Mr. Tian analyzed that the baby spotted seal could be given birth near Liao River and Daling River and was drifted by sea ice and ocean current.

Public participation is a strong force for biodiversity conservation. CBCGDF pays highly attention to the protection status of spotted seal after 100 spotted seals were trafficked in China. CBCGDF will continue keeping track of the state of the baby seal after the consultative meeting.
