The Flood is Ruthless, and Humans are Sentimental: Rescue the National First-Class Protected Animal Milu Deer

In the past few days, the water level of Dongting Lake in Yueyang City, Hunan Province has continued to rise, and there have been over-warning water levels, and most of the lake beaches have been submerged. The former holy site of the Milu deer was attacked by rising water.

Dongting Lake is the second largest freshwater lake in China and the best habitat for the breeding of Milu deer, a national first-class protected animal. They have almost no natural enemies here, and the only natural enemy is the annual flood season.

Volunteers from the East Dongting Ecological Protection Association of Yueyang City insist on patrolling Dongting Lake every day in order to protect the ecology of Dongting Lake from harm.

At noon on July 11, when the volunteers returned after patrolling and passing the waters of the reed field in Xinnanzhou, Yueyang City, a group of Milu deer suddenly appeared in front of them.

Three of them, Milu deer, lost their way in a vast ocean: they struggled desperately to survive in the water. The volunteers carefully drove the speed boat and drove the group of Milu deer to a higher location, hoping to save their lives.

One of the cubs who was left behind, apparently lacking strength, sometimes sank into the water and sometimes surfaced. He Damiang, the head of the volunteers, said immediately: "No, the Milu deer's cub is in danger. We can't see death. He kicked the throttle, and the speedboat accelerated towards the water where cub was.

Under the organization of He Daming, volunteers Hu Cunku, Song Zhengqiang, He Dongshun, etc. took the bamboo poles and the ropes, and after the concerted efforts of everyone, finally rescued this Milu deer’s cub that was about to sink into the water to the boat.

At the same time, the volunteers immediately reported to the relevant department of the Dongdongting Lake Wetland Reserve in Yueyang City. After learning the situation, they rushed to the scene immediately.

They escorted the Milu deer to the Yueyang Milu deer and bird rescue center for treatment. The flood is ruthless, and people are sentimental. It is hoped that people will treat the homeless victims well, treat the wild animals that have lost their habitat well, and work together to overcome the difficulties.
