In the early morning of May 19, two colleagues from China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Research Department arrived at Haixing Wetland to conduct a biodiversity assessment field survey, under the assistance of officers at the county Natural Resources and Planning Bureau.

Firstly, two researchers got the drift of the hydrologic regime at the wetland through an oral introduction by officers and images captured by unmanned aerial vehicles. Then, they sampled water and soil at the selected habitats with typical vegetation, respectively at regions with different functions. They also recorded the vegetation distribution.

According to the pictures and video clips, the crash program launched by the local government to replenish water into the wetland has achieved progress. Birds singing can be heard distantly. Small fish and roes, the important food source for birds habiting here, are observed. But water regions and dry areas that have been replenished are with the low water level, which means there is still a long way to go for wetland restoration.

The Research Department will preprocess the sampled soil and water, and deliver the sample to the special agency for analysis which will function as the reference for the formulation of the implementation program on Haixing Wetland biodiversity evaluation.
